I'm not sure what I've gotten myself into, but I was invited to be part of this "group ride" and couldn't pass up the opportunity. It should be an amazing experience even if it kills me trying to hang on to the group..

Great stuff Rick!

800 miles in 8 days is hard work, but I'm sure you manage ok!

I look forward to your news!

Regards,
Mick.

What a great experience this was! As most probably know, the Amgen Tour of California was shortened by the cancellation of Stage 1 (1 1/2 loops around Lake Tahoe) and the shortening of Stage 2 (Squaw Valley to Sacramento) due to a snow storm in the Sierras, so 800 miles in 8 days turned into more like 500+ in 7 days; nevertheless, we rode all the stages the pros did, starting out +- 3 hours ahead of the peloton each day. We had our own follow cars and team of 3 mechanics and 5 soigneurs without whom we'd have never made it. The two big climbing stages were something to behold; particularly Stage 7 that finish at the Mt. Baldy ski resort. What a day!

I'll get some of my photos, etc. posted on my site at cycling.oshlo.net at some point but in the meantime go to http://is.gd/MyD06a and scroll down to the bottom for a couple slideshows and links to blogs written each day by a couple of the participants. Also, http://is.gd/GFYfrA is a link to a story by an Outside magazine writer.

If you like epic ride experiences, this is one for the books!
