What a great experience this was! As most probably know, the Amgen Tour of California was shortened by the cancellation of Stage 1 (1 1/2 loops around Lake Tahoe) and the shortening of Stage 2 (Squaw Valley to Sacramento) due to a snow storm in the Sierras, so 800 miles in 8 days turned into more like 500+ in 7 days; nevertheless, we rode all the stages the pros did, starting out +- 3 hours ahead of the peloton each day. We had our own follow cars and team of 3 mechanics and 5 soigneurs without whom we'd have never made it. The two big climbing stages were something to behold; particularly Stage 7 that finish at the Mt. Baldy ski resort. What a day!
I'll get some of my photos, etc. posted on my site at cycling.oshlo.net at some point but in the meantime go to http://is.gd/MyD06a
and scroll down to the bottom for a couple slideshows and links to blogs written each day by a couple of the participants. Also, http://is.gd/GFYfrA
is a link to a story by an Outside magazine writer.
If you like epic ride experiences, this is one for the books!
