I recently got a Garmin 705 and my wife has a 305, so we're using both. I bought the 705 to see power graphs from my CycleOps PowerTap SL+ on the Ascent software. Being a Mac and PC user, the PC data analysis software from everyone else (MotionBased, Power Agent, et al...) is just a poor implementation of how data should be displayed for useful analysis and soooo 1990's compared to the functionality and sheer beauty of Ascent. Another reason for getting the 705, apart from having Ascent, is that we'll also be traveling to Switzerland and France for part of the TdFrance, riding the routes, etc. The 705 has sim card map/ GPS capabilities that the 305 did not have.

Garmin 305 with Heart and Cad. All road cycling, would really like some other calculations based on the data obtained. Like estimate of Power, pick up weather etc.

Garmin Edge 205 for on- and off-road cycling.
Forerunner 50 + HRM + GSC10 Speed/Cadence sensor (road bike only)

A bit of Perl is used to align and merge the data from the 205 and the FR50 for importing into Ascent / Garmin Connect.

I use a Globalsat BT-335 data logger. It has a SiRF III GPS chipset and great battery life. I simply turn it on and pop it in an outside pocket of my bag. I transfer the tracks to my Mac via bluetooth using LoadMyTracks. I save in GPX file format which I then import into Ascent.

I mountain bike, hike and run (both road and mountain running).

I'm currently using the Garmin Forerunner 305 for tri training & racing, but it is getting a bit ragged. I will soon be switching to the Garmin Forerunner 310XT... as soon as there is evidence Ascent is supporting it.

Rob, any progress on upgrading GPS maps... I've noticed RubiTrack is supporting Google's Terrain maps.

Cheers

I use both a Garmin 305 and a Garmin 705.

I use them for Road Biking, some mountain biking, and for downhill skiing.

Garmin 705 for cycling:

- virtual partner and ascent to compare workouts performed on the same course
- ascent to capture and organize data (distance, heart rate, cadence, speed, calories, temp, altitude, averages, etc.) from rides and races
- (eventually) GPS to follow courses uploaded by others to the web, and to save my own courses with waypoints for sharing
